Social Groups
We offer a variety of social groups based on age, developmental skills/ability, and interests that focus on enhancing interaction skills among peers and providing an opportunity for participation in structured group activities as well as everyday situations. The curriculums are based on the Social Thinking treatment frameworks that focus on social communication and social behavior to build functional social skills. The Speech-Language and Occupational Therapists that lead our groups will help determine which group is most appropriate for your child’s specific needs.
Are the CKI Social Groups right for your child? Is he/she?
-Verbal, speaking in sentences
-Able to sit at a table for discussions
-Able to transition between activities easily
-Able to participate in activities without 1:1 support
But is having trouble:
-“fitting in” with peers
-initiating, maintaining appropriate conversation with peers
-interpreting social cues, understanding body language/emotions and taking the perspective of others
-participating with peers during social events (birthdays, play dates, etc)
-maintaining appropriate behavior within social settings (e.g., acts out, avoids, retreats,
demonstrates inappropriate behavior within social experiences)
We work as a team to learn social skills and self-regulation necessary to help us navigate social scenarios in order to build meaningful relationships with our peers.
